designFARM welcome Tait’s latest collection, Seam, to our Perth showroom.  Through a simple series of cuts, folds and joins, Seam is materialised with elegant and precise form. Seam was conceived with a design process not dissimilar to the way in which a piece of fabric is tailored into a form-fitting garment.

Tait Seam1

For their latest collection of seating and tables, launched at DENFAIR in Melbourne in 2018, Tait have enlisted the expertise of prominent Australian designer, Adam Cornish. The resulting collaboration is a unified series of seating and tables characterised by clean lines, fluid contours and refined design detail – contrasted by an inherently robust construction and hard-wearing tactility.

“Although fabric and sheet metal seem worlds apart, the tailoring process used to construct shapes is surprisingly similar”

DESIGNER, ADAM CORNISH

Nothing has been left to chance, each part of the design process has been so carefully considered. The Seam Chair has a shell-like form which is achieved by cutting, folding and joining a single piece of flat sheet aluminium to meet in a ‘seam’ along the spine of the chair. Perfectly pressed and moulded contours offer increased levels of comfort and functionality. At the base of the chair is a natural drainage point which doubles as a handle, allowing the chair to be easily moved around or stacked.

As with all Tait product, materials have been chosen for their endurance in harsh climate, durability, strength and sustainability. Finished in hard-wearing, UV-stable, textured powder coat, Seam’s surfaces take on a soft, tactile and refined quality. In addition to stainless steel or aluminium, the legs come in a selection of modified timbers, granting the metal furniture a warmer finish.

Making reference to the Australian coastline, terrain and flora, Seam is available in a rich, earthy colour palette of deep ocean blue, pale eucalypt, paperbark, ochre, headland and woodland grey.

Designed for the outdoors but equally at home indoors, Seam is suitable for a variety of commercial and residential applications including hospitality, breakout, alfresco and balconies. The collection includes six typologies: dining chair, stacking chair, bar stool, dining table, café table and bar table.

designFARM will be premiering the Seam collection on Thursday 8th November 2018 in the company of designer Adam Cornish. Visit our showroom throughout November and December to discover collection.
