Meet SPACE COPENHAGEN, a multidisciplinary Danish design studio forging new paths in design through the balancing of opposites in an approach they call “poetic modernism”. With an extensive portfolio of work that ranges from furniture to art installations to high end hospitality, SPACE COPENHAGEN is one of Denmark’s most successful design firms and a name you should know.

SPACE COPENHAGEN was founded in 2005 by Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaars Rützou, graduates from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture.  Not wanting to conform to a conventional career path, the pair joined forces to form a multidisciplinary design studio working across architecture, interiors, furniture and lighting.

In a short time, the duo has defined their own signature style and aesthetic centred on quality and longevity.  SPACE COPENHAGEN use an approach to design which they call “poetic modernism” to achieve a balance of opposites where classic meets modern, industrial meets organic, sculptural meets minimal and light meets dark.

“I BELIEVE VERY LITTLE IN TRENDS, FOR ME, IT IS MORE ABOUT CREATING SOMETHING THAT FEELS HONEST, RATHER THAN HAVING EVERYTHING IN A CERTAIN STYLE.”

– Signe Bindslev Henriksen

SPACE COPENHAGEN has an extensive portfolio ranging from furniture to art installations to high end interior design projects establishing a strong identity in the hospitality and luxury retail sectors. The work of Henriksen and Rützou has been recognised in the international design scene with interiors they have done for some of the most influential restaurants including NOMA, Geranium, Geist, LouLou, Muslings and 108 restaurants as well as the 11 Howard Hotel in New York and the recently renovated Radison Blu Royal Hotel in Copenhagen.

The breadth of their work is a true reflection of their ability to transcend boundaries using a thoughtful process whereby the duo is constantly questioning, investigating possibilities, opening up conversations and exploring the finer details of projects.
