[MILAN ’16] OFFECCT CHAMPIONS SUSTAINABILITY

Spirited by the OFFECCT LifeCircle sustainability program, the Swedish furniture brand previews progressive collaborations with Neri&Hu and Studio Nichetto at Salone del Mobile along with the Offecct 2016 Collection of new products inspired by nature, traditional craftsmanship and sustainability.

New products featured at Milan Salone 2016:

MONTPARNASSE designed by Christopher Pillet
In protest against the consumerist culture we live in, the Montparnasse Chair is designed with the ambition of using less material and takes inspiration from camping gear and military furniture. It is made with a high-tech textile mounted on a mechanical frame, making the easy chair light while using minimal amounts of material. “The exciting challenge has been to apply the cleverness and economical thinking of camping gear, but with the comfort and finish of high-end domestic furniture. It is about providing people with space, being light and transparent in the contemporary environment,” says Pillet.

WIND designed by Jin Kurumoto
Wind is a range of organic-shaped Acoustic Room Dividers. The earthy shapes and colours reflect the designer’s inspiration from nature. Kuramoto shares, “I think that it will be very nice to have these room dividers as reminders of nature’s beauty in a hospital or a large office landscape, for example. They also make it possible to speak in private even in acoustically chaotic environments.”

MEMBRANE designed by David Trubridge
Made with polyester extracted from recycled bottles, the Membrane Screen filters sound and can be used to semi-divide spaces or dampen sound when placed against a wall. It can be assembled in various sculptural shapes and patterns, and creates a beautiful layering of shadows when lit. World-renowned New Zealand based designer David Trubridge shares, “My inspiration, as usual, is nature, from where I draw most of my patterns. I love to go out on hikes and sleep under a tree for a few days, and it’s nice to bring a bit of the forest in to the indoor environment.”

SOUFFLE range designed by Cecilie Manz
Designed for the modern office; informal and creative workplaces where flexibility and mobility are essential. When designing the range, Cecilie Manz was inspired by rocky archipelagos and the act of jumping from stone to stone when exploring these wild places. The shapes in the final design are organic and individual to reflect this, and the table can be used as a hub around which the stools gather. An important element is the tactile contrast between the tough textile base and the soft `whipped cream´ cushion on the top, a cutting edge mix of foam and natural feathers.

ON POINT table designed by Matias Stenberg
A further development of the ideas that originated from the Carry On stool, Stenberg’s first project for Offecct, which has been hugely successful since its launch three years ago. The table is designed to allow full contact between up to eight people around it, while it’s also perfect for more private and intimate gatherings among a few individuals. It is part of Offecct’s O2asis-concept, with vegetation integrated into furniture pieces in order to improve wellbeing and air quality. The table can hold plants and trees of different dimensions, with rings of two sizes placed in the table’s centre.

PHOENIX chair designed by Luca Nichetto
“The chair is named after the bird in Greek mythology that rises from its own ashes. The name derives from the chair’s renewable qualities which we have developed in the thorough LifeCircle tradition that Offecct stands for. When one part of the chair is worn out or damaged, it can be easily replaced while the old part is swiftly recycled. All components in the chair are exchangeable and renewable. It’s constructed from four elements that turn a simple structure into a striking esthetic appearance, with the bold seating curve offering superior comfort. The generous selection of colours makes the chair very usable in a wide variety of environments.”

HANGER designed by Shanghai-based studio Neri&Hu
“We are always interested in seemingly mundane and anonymous everyday objects. This hanger represents an object that is neglected and ignored in domestic and office environments — not glorified at all but in fact among the most important. We want to respect the Offecct brand values which stand for a simplicity and a strong sense for the contemporary communal meeting place — and for the LifeCircle philosophy reflected in the base of recycled stone or concrete. The hanger is like an `Ayi´. `Ayi´ is an endearing term meaning `aunt´ and is what the Chinese use to call their domestic helper. She doesn’t crave attention but adornes grace, beauty and usefulness to the household.” — Lyndon Neri, Neri&Hu
