Australian designer Tom Fereday is one to keep your eye on. Fereday develops products based on the principle of honest design, true to materials and processes. His unique and highly sought after designs are taking the local and international design scenes by storm.
Born in Australia, Tom Fereday grew up in England studying at the Wimbledon School of Art before moving to Sydney to complete an honours in Industrial Design at the University of Technology Sydney. Working across europe and Australia Tom Fereday went onto found his sole practice in 2012.

Named after its unique adjustable backrest, the Sia chair, meaning ‘movement’, was inspired by traditional bearings, featuring a slender design without compromising comfort. Using the natural flex of the steel frame the backrest is simply press fit assembled allowing for minimal shipping volume and easy end of life recycling or repair.
In a recent interview with dezeen, Fereday explains that he “wanted to develop a slim dining chair that would be accessible to anyone no matter where they lived, but didn’t compromise on the luxury or comfort of dining; something that could fit in anyone’s home”. Read the full dezeen article here.
Sia’s sculpted solid ash seat is set within a minimal stainless steel frame that allows the chair to be stacked.
