MEET MAYU
Australian design darlings Coco Flip have just released a beautiful new series of lighting designs called “Mayu“. In true Coco Flip fashion the series takes cues from traditional forms whilst imparting us with an inimitable personality (see the Coco pendant & Puku ottoman). Inspired by the beauty of Iceland’s otherworldly landscapes, Mayu attempts to capture this sense of serenity and allure. With a perfectly diffused, welcoming glow and simplistic form, Mayu makes an atmospheric addition from cosy lounges to lofty stairwells.
The series includes five various pendants and a floor lamp, from smaller pendants at 38cm diameter right up to elongated pieces at 1.7m in length. Whilst appearing simple in design, Mayu is in fact one of the most complex designs in the range. With an objective for Mayu to appear effortlessly seamless and pure, much attention was paid to the resolution of the joinery and illumination elements within the design. Each shade is hand cut, laminated, stitched and taped to the finest detail using traditional shade making techniques. Mayu is made entirely by local craftspeople in Melbourne, staying true to Coco Flip’s “designed in Australia & made in Australia” commitment and ethos.
The Mayu lighting collection will be launched at DEN fair in Melbourne from June 2nd-4th.
