[MILAN ’16] CARL HANSEN & SON MIXING OLD WITH NEW
For this year’s Milan Design Week, Carl Hansen & Son do what they do best… And that is to mix the old with the new. The Danish heritage brand presents new (never-before-manufactured) Hans J. Wegner chairs along with exciting new design collaborations with EOOS and Naja Utzon-Popov at both Salone del Mobile and in their brand-spanking new Milan showroom.
CH22 & CH26 chairs designed by Hans J Wegner
First up, Carl Hansen & Son has recreated one of Hans J. Wegner’s early designs: the CH22 lounge chair from 1950, which was part of his debut collection for the Danish furniture manufacturer – a series that included such iconic designs a the CH24 (better known as the Wishbone Chair). Wegner also took inspiration from CH22 and created a blueprint for transforming the lounge chair into a dining chair, the CH26. Remarkably until now, this design has never been produced. Both chairs share many of the design elements so characteristic of Wegner including organic shapes, bold backs, light-coloured wood and woven seats. We particular love the walnut finish.
WOODLINES rug collection designed by Naja Utzon-Popov
Carl Hansen & Son has also formed new design collaborations with EOOS and Naja Utzon-Popov that complements the classic Wegner collection. The Woodlines Rug Collection draws inspiration from nature and a study of wood and its attributes. Naja Utzon Popov has zoomed in on countless lengths of wood, magnifying the unique characteristics that contain a wealth of details and express the wood’s character. The outcome – a familiar wood pattern presented on another material – creates a new expression with clear links to the source. The rugs stand out as elegant, fine-crafted works that add to a room’s personality. Hand-knotted from wool, they feature long pile with a soft and luxurious feel. The rugs’ tight weave makes them easy to clean and ensures that the pile remains straight and the pattern intact, even with heavy use.
These new designs will be available at designFARM late 2016.
