Stefan Diez is a Munich-based industrial designer who creates products for the circular economy. Since founding his studio DIEZ OFFICE in 2002, Stefan has been at the forefront of transforming the ways in which contemporary products are developed and manufactured. The studio works across typologies such as furniture, lighting, architectural elements and accessories, bringing together technical expertise, creative experimentation and a rigorous commitment to sustainability.
Stefan’s approach to design is encapsulated in his 10 Circular Design Guidelines, a set of principles that outline how commercially successful products can be both environmentally and socially responsible. Together, these guidelines demonstrate how design can enable meaningful change across industry and society.
Stefan’s studio is located in a former joinery in the centre of Munich, which DIEZ OFFICE transformed in 2008 to create an atelier and workshop for hands-on experimentation. Today, the joinery is not only home to the studio, but also provides working spaces for a collective of practitioners drawn from across the creative industries. This spirit of cross-pollination is characteristic of DIEZ OFFICE’s work. The team is driven by curiosity, technical knowledge, and a passion for challenging convention, creating simple, contemporary solutions that cut through complex problems: they design products and systems that respond to the questions of our time.
Over the course of his career, Stefan has created numerous award-winning products, forming long-term collaborations with internationally renowned manufacturers such as HAY, Vibia, Magis, Herman Miller, e15, Midgard, Thonet, Rosenthal and others.
