Justin Hutchinson

Justin Hutchinson is a Melbourne-based design director, industrial designer, and urban innovator who firmly believes in the positive value of design.

As Founder & Director of Urban Commons, Justin’s experience with outdoor products and environmental design sparked his research into the duality between manufactured and natural environments—designing for longevity and ultimately seeking a way for the man-made to co-exist with the natural world. As Design Director of Urban Commons, he aims to create thoughtful urban solutions for high-density living through technological and social innovation.

In his role as Design Director at Kett, Justin’s career in furniture has helped define some of Australia’s most loved landmarks and earned international recognition. His experience spans nearly two decades, from production hand, in-house designer, lecturer, and business founder, to highly-experienced Design Director, where he and his team execute each detail with care.

Formally trained in industrial design, Justin has collaborated with industry leaders including Tait, Stylecraft, Dessein Furniture, Cantilever Interiors, and Tongue and Groove, and his furniture graces some of Australia’s most notable landmarks.
