The Rothsay Residence is an alteration and addition project in a heritage protection area in Menora, blending the existing Post War Austerity Cottage with a contemporary, playful extension.
Inspired by the original home, the design adheres to Heritage guidelines that require reflection of the traditional house’s style, form, colour, and materials. Traditional elements like red brick walls and a pitched terracotta roof are reinterpreted for modern living.
The interior showcases a vibrant mix of colours and textures, featuring Tasmanian oak, marble-look porcelain, concrete, red face brick, and curated furniture pieces, capturing the lively personality of the clients.
The Dowel Jones Hurdle stool is a fun addition that blends function and character. In essence The Rothsay residence is a testament to how thoughtful design can elevate a home constrained with conservative character retention requirements, creating a unique environment that feels timeless and fresh.
