Architecture Rooted in Fremantle’s Gold Rush Era

Located in Fremantle’s historic West End, Vin Populi’s architecture pays tribute to the affluence and optimism of the gold rush era. Fremantle, known for its rich cultural heritage, features a distinctive architectural landscape where restored colonial buildings from the 1800s stand out.

Honouring Tradition with Modern Design

The building honours its storied past as the former home of the Roma restaurant, a Fremantle dining institution for over 50 years. Rezen Studio’s design strategy for Vin Populi involved highlighting the building’s early 20th-century heritage by stripping back years-worth of accumulated finishes and introducing new materials, finishes, and furnishings with a notable Italian influence.

Furniture That Echoes Fremantle’s Portside Charm

Dowel Jones Volta High Stools and Chairs, with their solid brass details and tubular frames, reference the venue’s portside location, while the tiled and Formica tabletops evoke a clear European influence.
